Greetings:
I am writing to update you on our public education and charitable fundraising drive. This year marks the 44th year of our community canvass in New York.
As you may know, the New York Public Interest Research Group Fund, Inc. (“NYPIRG”) is a not-forprofit, non-partisan organization formed in 1976 and registered with the New York State Department of State. NYPIRG is a tax exempt charitable entity under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3). Contributions to NYPIRG are tax deductible.
NYPIRG’s primary areas of concern include consumer protection, environmental preservation and public health. As a charitable organization, in addition to reports filed each year with the IRS, NYPIRG files annual financial reports with the Charities Bureau of the Office of the New York State Attorney General.
We anticipate conducting our door-to-door outreach in your community for a brief period between May 2nd, 2022 and August 31, 2022. Outreach is conducted Monday-Friday 4 p.m.-9 p.m., and on Saturdays from 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Our activities will entail circulating support statements, collecting small contributions, distributing information and recruiting support (letters, calls, participation) on a variety of issues of concern to the community.
Your office will receive a list of our employees’ names and addresses before we begin working in your community. As always, we will coordinate our outreach activities with those of other organizations to ensure we are contacting residents in the most professional manner. Once we receive written correspondence from your office confirming receipt of this letter, we will share our staff list and vehicle information with local police.
This letter represents part of our commitment to cooperating fully with local municipalities while we are conducting our outreach efforts. Toward that end, I ask that you please send written confirmation of this letter to syracuseoffice@nypirg.org. If you have any questions or need more information, do not hesitate to call me at (212) 349-7474.
Thank you for your attention to this request.

Oxbow Rd Closure and rerouting
This year’s Rehabilitation project on Oxbow Road will require a large culvert replacement approximately 1 1/2 mile South of Whitman/Alene Corners Road Intersection. We had planned on using only lane closures to complete this project, however there is an unanticipated issue with getting temporary signals for off hours. Another option sometimes is to construct the culvert off site and set into place with a crane. This option could still be available, however it is certainly more expensive, but does not solve the traffic control issue. So, it appears we will need to close a section of Oxbow Road for 5-6 days, beginning May 23rd. The detour will consist of Old County Road to East Mile Strip road. We will install required detour signs at each end and work some overtime to complete the work asap, but if you could let residents in your Towns know ahead of time that usually helps. I will ask our Information Officer to provide notice from the County level. I apologize for the inconvenience, but we will do everything we can to minimize the impact, and please call or email me with any questions. Thank You, F. I have a few more updates for our department. We have scheduled our Spring Document Shredding event for Madison County residents. Due to the huge turnout last Spring and the limited capacity of the shred event truck, we are requiring residents to register for the event prior to attending. We have created a registration form for residents to fill out on our website: www.madisoncounty.ny.gov/FormCenter/Solid-Waste-4/Saturday-May-14-2022-Shred-Event-Registr-176
Once they fill out the form, they will receive a call from our office staff to set up an appointment time between 8 AM and 11 AM. This will help the flow of traffic for the day of the event. Spaces are limited and are on a first-come, first-served basis. We shared a post on our Facebook page if you would like to share it with your community. We also posted about it on NextDoor. Spaces are still available although we do anticipate all spots to be filled by the time of the event.
